Levi Everett, today you are FIVE months old!
You are changing SO quickly, it is a miracle to be a witness to your life. You are so happy and completely animated, what a personality! I have seen amazing developments in you over the past month. You are SO very active. You love playing on your tummy or in your activity chair. I watch the wheels turning as you begin to master manipulating objects with your hands (and your feet). It is hard to keep you in one place for very long. You are scooting and flipping and turning all around. You are starting to scoot backwards and I have a feeling crawling is right around the corner, uh-oh! Sleep is NOT one of your favorite pastimes, you are too busy learning about the world around you to bother with sleep. After five months of sleep deprivation your Dad and I have all but given up and brought you into our bed for most of the night. I might add that you sleep wonderfully when snuggled up against a warm body, nursing at your convenience. It seems you crave close contact especially on the nights after I have been at work. I secretly think you must miss me all day. Napping seems to be hit-or-miss. You still take very short naps but both Dad and I can get you down in your crib. We are working very hard to make you a confident, independent sleeper when we can! We are discovering you have a mind of your own and you have already taught us so much - mostly to expect the unexpected at all times. You are babbling and talking and humming more and more everyday, you have so much to say! I love to make you giggle with silly noises, your Dad has discovered you are quite ticklish too. You still really enjoy being outside. Birds and trees and wind remain quite fascinating distractions. Your own limbs are quite distracting as well. Your hands and feet seem to sabotage our best efforts to get you to sleep, hands grab pacifiers, legs turn on your crib ocean soother or snag on a crib bar and push you on to your stomach; it is hard to be a baby! You have started to notice when people around you are eating. You stare and reach as if you are wondering what this eating business is all about. You already have two teeth and can hold up your head very well. We are planning to start solids with you at the end of this week, how exciting! I think you will be a great eater and I hope to introduce you to a healthy adventurous outlook on food. You are very close to sitting up on your own, you can manage for a few seconds before you tip over. I imagine your world will look very different from a vertical viewpoint. You are already 27 inches long and you weigh 17 pounds, 12 ounces - apparently breastmilk does a body good! We are enjoying every beautiful moment with you and doing our best to make the most out of every day, even if that means staying in our PJ's and snuggling! You are our greatest and most treasured joy! We love you very much.
